Pearl River rallies from early deficit to win Rockland County 9-year-old title
A 6-5 win over South Orangetown gives Pearl River third consecutive county championship
WEST NYACK -- Liam McLinskey sacrifice fly in the fifth inning was the difference yesterday as top-seeded Pearl River defeated seventh-seeded South Orangetow, 6-5 in the Rockland County 9-year-old Tournament final at Germonds Park.
This is the third consecutive year Pearl River has won this tournament.
Pearl River trailed, 4-0 and 5-3 before rallying back each time. In the third inning, Sean Flaherty, Kieran Creighton and Jonathon Farley had run-scoring singles to bring Pearl River within a run at 4-3. Brian Mahoney and Creighton initiated a two-run rally in the fourth, evening the score at 5-5.
Flaherty earned the win in relief with 2 1/3 scoree-less innings.
Kyle Daly doubled and drove in two runs and Sean Peterson tripled for South Orangetown.
